Marie: Hello girls! It’s been a while!! Whats up? Did you finish your studies? Tell me how was it?
Dune: So, as you can see I stayed in Paris to do a bachelor in ISCPA school, the « institute of media ». It’s a bachelor in audiovisual production and communication.
Alison: Ow, you’re specialized in both of these fields ?
Dune: No, not really. I learned both of them because they are inevitably connected therefore it’s as if I only worked one. To produce an audiovisual project, you have to know how to promote it, same thing, in communication projects, it’s essential to have the basics of production. I had doubts at the beginning but in fact it’s really interesting and certainly useful for my future career. Moreover, I appreciate the school subjects and the professors who teached them to us.
Concerning the fame of the school, no need to lie, it’s not well known. ISCPA establishment existed for 25 years but it just started to develop his outside communication. However, we observe that more and more students come to the school.
Now, let’s come to the serious subject : price. I know that I don’t have the right to complain about it compare to your situation in the United States but…7 000 euros per year plus the cost of my apartment of 8,50 square meters, it’s a lot for me and my parents' capacities. But it’s okay, I worked and for the moment the school’s formation and the people I met there are worth the cost.
Speaking about people, I’m really happy with the overall vibe on the campus. People are friendly and everyone in the class brings a « je ne sais quoi » which creates a global harmony of sustain and sympathie.
Alison: As you know in the USA, we are the king of parties! In the University of Miami, we have a Students Union office which organizes and actively improves student life including big parties, outings, travels, links with companies and even organization of conferences.
I want to say just as well, the price is very high. It's a little more than $40,000 on average. But in reality, it’s normal. This is a school of great renown. It’s located in the center of Miami and after studied in this school students tend to earn a salary in the middle five figures on average. But I agree to say it is expensive. On top of that I have to pay my rent and buy food, it's a lot of expenses at the end of the month.
This university is famous for his journalism program but not only. Indeed, we can learn cinematic art, communication studies and strategic communication as well as journalism & media management. I learn Strategic Communication at this University and it consists of Advertising and Public Relations. This school teaches to their students to be creative and original. What I like about this school is the professionalism and the fact that it is very connected. Above all, the fact that it is an American school will allow you to work worldwide.
Marie: You must know that sport is very important thing in the US. It's a huge part of every school and mostly universities. That’s why in the university I have attended which is Hofstra University Lawrence Herbert School of Communication has a cursus of sport broadcasting. Students have a lot of opportunities to experiment with the sport univers. It’s not just playing various sports, it's sport journalism, sport marketing and law, sport media production such as radio. This is with this sort of subjects that makes my university well known. The plus with the fields program is that students end up with a good real world experiences.
I must admit that the price for a year in the university is high, but this is how US universities work, and agree with that or not, education there is not free.
The life on campus is very good, we have the possibility to be in so many teams, a lot of opportunities are offer to us, to be as happy as possible in the university. The pride of the students for their university is not to be questioned. Plus there is a No hate at Hofstra association to enforce the inclusion of every single one student and that encourages diversity.
Our university has a big name in the sport broadcasting department especially with all the students' work. They can write or report on sports for many media outlets through the college, such as The Chronicle, Hofstra Today, Long Island Report, Sports Beat. All of this has made a big difference from other universities. Moreover Hofstra’s communication college has a top-rated and award-winning college radio station for students.
